We offer a challenging and exciting environment for career development, with a focus on training, growth and fostering an inclusive culture.

We are looking for a social video producer (podcasts) to film, edit and produce engaging video and graphical content that will grow the audience for the award-winning Today in Focus podcast and other Guardian shows on our social media and video channels. You'll be covering a wide range of UK and international stories, producing videos on such things as housing, pop culture, elections, conflict, education, human rights, technology, and investigations.

This is a full-time 12-month fixed-term contract or internal staff secondment.

About the role:

  • Work with producers, executive producers and hosts to generate ideas for how episodes can be presented and promoted on social channels
  • Generate ideas for additional content that can be filmed and produced to engage social audiences
  • Operate studio cameras and direct podcast video shoots
  • Edit engaging social video content from our leading podcasts
  • Working with podcast producers to brief guests and prepare them for filming episodes of Today in Focus
  • Work closely with senior and executive producers to guarantee the highest levels of creativity, editorial and legal standards
  • Explore new ways of connecting with audiences on social media, for example, through explainers, image carousels or behind the scenes content
  • Assist with YouTube optimisation on all Today in Focus content - keywords, headlines, video descriptions, geolocating etc
  • Assist with managing and responding to comments on YouTube and social channels
  • Work with executive producers to provide data analysis on how YouTube and social content is performing.

About you:

  • Experience of using video editing software, ideally Adobe Premiere
  • Experience of shooting video in and outside of studio settings
  • Experience of directing multi-camera video podcast shoots
  • An understanding of design tools including Photoshop and Figma
  • Understanding of YouTube channel management and search engine optimisation
  • Insight into community engagement and audience data on YouTube and other social platforms
  • Ability to interpret audience metrics to guide creative and strategic choices
  • Awareness of how audiences dynamically discover and engage with social video
  • Proven capacity to deliver high-quality outputs under strict, recurring deadlines
  • Understanding of Guardian podcasts and what makes compelling episodes
  • Knowledge and understanding of media law
  • Active interest in UK and global current affairs
  • Ideally, you'll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role

We actively encourage applications from groups traditionally underrepresented in the UK media.

We operate in a hybrid environment working at least three days a week from our offices in King's Cross in London.

Job share applications are welcome. If you are keen to apply jointly with someone else as a job share, you should make a single application and combine your application documents.
