Script Writer

Next summer, LeedsBID will be bringing a free mythical creature trail to Leeds city centre for the six-week summer holidays, and we’re currently looking for a scriptwriter to help bring the stories to life.
The project will involve a combination of pre-recorded videos and live theatrical storytelling, with a focus on making mythology and historical stories engaging and accessible for audiences visiting the city.
We have already approached a historian who will help us shape the historical context for each story. We’re now looking for a scriptwriter who can take this research and develop it into engaging, theatrical scripts that bring the chosen characters and stories to life.
Below is a rough breakdown of the scriptwriting requirements we have identified so far.
1. Six location video scripts:
- Up to 10 minutes max per script.
- Each trail location will feature a screen playing a video that introduces the mythical creature and provides historical context for its story.
- We have two familiar CBBC presenters George Webster and Andy Torbet up to deliver the scripts as a duo on location.
- The six creatures and mythological figures are: the Kraken, Ammit, Medusa, the Unicorn, Frost Giants and Fuzanglong.
2. Four live theatrical storytelling scripts:
- Approximately 15-20 minutes per performance.
- Four trail locations will host live performances, with each performance taking place three times a day.
- We will provide historical research to help inform the storytelling and development of each script.
The four stories we are looking to develop are:
- Heimdall and the Frost Giants: Two versions of the story, one featuring Freyja and the other featuring Loki.
- Two Sailors and the Kraken: A story centred on two sailors encountering the mythical sea creature.
- Thoth, Osiris, Anubis: A story exploring these figures from Egyptian mythology.
- Perseus and Andromeda: A retelling of the Greek myth associated with Medusa.
