Looking for a Freelance Illustrator / Surface Pattern Designer -- Fashion

I’m looking for a freelance illustrator / surface pattern designer for a new premium, graphic-led children’s lifestyle fashion brand based in India.

The brand is graphic-led, with illustration, print and visual storytelling at the heart of the product and brand identity. The positioning is premium rather than mass-market, with a strong emphasis on distinctive visual language and thoughtfully developed graphics.

Essentials:

• An illustrator who can work with source artwork and thematic material, translating it into an original and cohesive visual language for a fashion project.
• Someone who can bring their own creative thinking to the process -- not simply reproduce or digitise the original artwork.
• Ideally, experience applying illustration to textiles, apparel or surface pattern design.

I’m not looking for someone to create logos, branding, social media graphics or general commercial graphic design.

Role:

• Understand and interpret source artwork and fine-tune collection themes.
• Develop designs, motifs, characters and visual elements in response to the source material.
• Work collaboratively to establish a coherent illustration language across products and categories.
• Understand colourways, scale, density, spacing and layering, and apply this to developing all-over repeats and placement prints.
• Experience working with an international / European fashion brand in a similar role is a major plus.

This is specifically an illustration + surface pattern/fashion print project.
