We're looking for a Communications and Marketing Officer to join the Cumbria and Lancashire Marketing Team, to help inspire more people to visit and connect with some of the Lake District's most special places. Working across a portfolio of National Trust properties in Cumbria, you'll support delivery of a marketing and communications plan that aims to drive visits, broaden access and bring the places we care for to life by tailoring content to appeal to our target audiences.

What it's like to work here:

Working for the National Trust in Cumbria offers a distinctive experience, with roles rooted in some of the UK’s most varied and inspiring landscapes and historic properties. From Sizergh near Kendal to Wray Castle on the shores of Windermere and Wordsworth House and Garden near Cockermouth, these places tell powerful stories of people and creativity, shaped by a strong sense of place.

You’ll report into the Senior Communications and Marketing Officer and join a team spread across the area who promote places to a wide and diverse audience. The role offers a balance of autonomy and collaboration, with the opportunity to make a tangible local impact while staying connected to the wider National Trust.

This is a hybrid role, combining on-site working days with some home working. You will be expected to travel to different National Trust properties across Cumbria. We support flexible working from any of our property offices within the area (Acorn Bank, Grasmere, Sizergh, Ullswater, Windermere or Wray).

What you'll be doing:

You'll be responsible for letting people know about National Trust places in Cumbria and how they can visit, using your strong storytelling and content creation skills to take an audience-first approach.

You'll deliver marketing and communications activity that supports key seasonal campaigns and deepens connection with the National Trust. Working closely with property operational teams, visitor experience colleagues and regional communications specialists, you'll follow an annual programming calendar and create compelling content across a range of channels.

Your day-to-day work will cover things like creating new content on our web pages, making sure that existing information remains relevant and accurate, running social media accounts, creating promotional materials, and writing and distributing press releases. You'll use audience insight, evaluation and emerging trends to shape activity, identify opportunities and continually improve results.

We’re looking for someone who is self-motivated, creative and able to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring communications are coordinated, impactful and aligned with the National Trust brand.

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you if you’re:

  • familiar and confident with a range of communications and marketing channels, including digital and social media
  • strong written and verbal communication skills
  • a good team player, who can build strong relationships both internally and externally
  • skilled in working with IT (including Microsoft Office)
  • well organised, able to work under your own initiative and manage multiple priorities

The package:

The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart. We’re working hard to create an inclusive culture, where everyone feels they belong. It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.

• Substantial pension scheme of up to 10% basic salary

• Free entry to National Trust places for you, a guest and your children (under 18)

• Rental deposit loan scheme

• Season ticket loan

• EV car lease scheme (for roles that meet the salary criteria)

• Perks at work discounts such as gym memberships, shopping discount codes, cinema discounts

• Holiday allowance up to 32 days relating to length of service, plus holiday purchase scheme, subject to meeting minimum criteria.

• Flexible working whenever possible

• Employee assistance programme

• Free parking at most Trust places
