As a mobile first studio we care a lot about our User Interfaces – they help our players engage with our games making them the multi-million download hits they are. We put great importance and effort on delivering artistic, technically brilliant and appealing interfaces, which is where you come in.  

As a HARDlight Technical UI Artist, you will work closely with the UI and game teams to prototype and implement the UI for our games within Unity’s UI toolset. You will bridge the gap between art and code and ensure the game UI is implemented efficiently and optimally on all devices.  

This is a role that could be filled by someone from an art background who enjoys the technical side or someone from a programming background who enjoys pushing the visual quality. 

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the UI artists and game teams to develop and implement the User Interfaces for our games in Unity. This will include creating HUDs, Frontends, Dialogues, Menus, UI Animations, Particle FX and Transitions. 
  • Coordinate and work closely with the engineering team to ensure the UI is implemented to maximise efficiency, memory and is optimised for target platforms while balancing the visual goals. 
  • Iterate and refine to adapt to market trends, design iterations and analytical data to streamline, refine and optimise the game UI 
  • Develop stunning UI FX and animations to add a positive feedback experience to all our players 

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience using Unity’s UI toolset 
  • Be meticulous and enjoy getting the UI pixel-perfect 
  • Good knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, After Effects) 
  • Internally driven and proactive, harbouring a deep passion for establishing and maintaining great user experiences and stunning visual design 
  • Excellent technical understanding of UI art pipelines, memory and rendering budgets 
  • Have an interest in developing and maintaining an efficient workflow and pipelines for the swift and effective iteration of in game UI assets. 

Desirable:

  • Shipped at least 1 title on mobile where you worked on the UI implementation. 
  • Development experience on a wide variety of mobile platforms 
  • Ability to previsualise UI Animations in packages such as Adobe Animate or After Effects 
  • Understand writing compute shaders using CG or HLSL 
  • Experience in using alternative UI packages such as NGUI or Scaleform 
  • Previous experience from creating casual to mid-core mobile games 
  • Able to design and create tools in C#/Javascript in Unity or Photoshop to aid yourself and the UI Artists in delivering visually advanced and performant UI. 
  • An understanding of UX/UI principles and goals
