Do you want to work with one of Britain’s best-loved and most trusted news brands in one of the country's busiest and most vibrant (though currently virtual) newsrooms? The Liverpool Echo already has a large, loyal and engaged readership and now we’re looking for a talented and creative SEO editor to help us step up to the next level.

The successful candidate will head our SEO writing team ensuring we are producing unique content which our audience is searching for and maximising search opportunities relevant to our readership. While the role is primarily focused on writing SEO content for an Echo audience it will include occasional weekend work on a rota as part of the audience and content team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Write SEO content for a Liverpool Echo brand audience.
  • Provide ongoing, analytical critiques of search performance and audience acquisition from search platforms.
  • Lead forward planning, developing and issuing SEO guidance for upcoming events (e.g. the Grand National, the May local elections or the next General Election).
  • Establish and maintain robust reporting systems for performance.
  • Ensure outcomes and opportunities are regularly communicated across central and regional teams.
  • Become a go-to person for journalists and reporters seeking advice or improvements to articles. Identify search trends and communicate insights to the relevant teams, making recommendations to journalists for relevant keywords and keyword combinations to target on articles.
  • Run a support and skills development network for the journalists who are SEO leads in our newsrooms.
  • Ensure SEO best practice and search performance updates are cascaded down through newsrooms, so that all our journalists exhibit a minimum level of SEO competence.
  • Frequently assess our newsrooms’ SEO training needs.
  • Devise and deliver (either in person or via train the trainer) training packages.

The Ideal Candidate:

The SEO Editor’s brief incorporates the ongoing development of new skills, tools, editorial standards and training.

The successful candidate will be an experienced journalist, manager or head of content with an SEO background or relevant SEO experience. The ability to use analytics and other metrics to evaluate search performance is essential. Also desirable is previous experience of leading teams and delivering effective training.

Ongoing training and development are key to the success of this role. The successful candidate will be encouraged to spend time studying search updates and developments, and invited to attend industry conferences and seminars.
