We are looking for a Head of Internal Communications to join AXA and support the Head of Communications to develop the internal communications strategy and have responsibility for the implementation. Working with the Communications team, and more widely across the relevant teams in AXA, the role will balance the demands of the UK & Ireland strategic direction, AXA Group, employees and external communications to ensure joined up and cohesive messaging. The role will oversee the Internal Communications team, driving strong communications plans, proactive business partnership, and alignment on key messages across both the UK team and Health/Ireland teams. There will be a focus on delivering excellent change communications, supporting stakeholders to achieve their business priorities.

What will you be doing?

  • Strategy: Set internal communications strategy, initiatives and roadmap for Corporate centre, Retail and commercial business units, ensuring alignment and engagement with Health and Ireland on key messages. Manage, monitor and measure progress against internal communication plan.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Build and maintain strong, trusted and effective relationships with key stakeholders, including the UK Management Committee members, to ensure consistency of the internal communications strategy and approach.
  • Group relationship: Maintain internal communications relationships with Group teams, including alignment with Group communications and Group strategy, updating and reporting on UK&I internal communication activity and alignment.
  • CEO visibility: Supports Head of Communication to manage the CEO engagement and internal visibility, including agreeing and progressing narrative and approach to vlogs, email communication, leadership conference and other high-profile activity.
  • Team leadership: Lead the UK Internal communications business partners team, enabling them to drive forward the strategy by setting goals, managing development, and driving engagement. Ensuring the teams’ messaging and activity supports the strategy and the key business unit requirements. Coordinate the activity of wider UK & Ireland communications team maintaining dotted line relationship with Health and Ireland teams.
  • Resource management: Work with the Internal Communications Business Partners to determine allocation of resources at times of peak load across the team.
  • Governance: Responsible for maintaining internal comms input to risk & reputation log, crisis communications plan, and other governance processes including internal communications strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent stakeholder management, with proven experience working alongside senior stakeholders to develop internal communication strategies which support business goals.
  • An inquisitive and proactive approach, with a strong ability to quickly understand tools and issues from an end-user’s perspective.
  • Recent experience as an In-house head of internal communications, in complex organisation, ideally in the financial services/insurance sector.
  • Experience of leading and developing an internal communications team, managing geographically dispersed staff.
  • Significant experience managing, delivering and measuring change communication, developing a company-wide internal communications strategy.
  • Experience of successfully managing complex projects, involving multiple stakeholders, from start to finish.
  • Managing internal relationships with charm and giving strong, credible advice – including working with the CEO office and C-suite.
  • Outrageously good writer, storyteller and presenter.
  • Able to coordinate, take the initiative and stay focused on the outcome, capable of strong and convincing delivery in challenging environments.
  • An obsessive organisational streak to keep multiple projects running smoothly.
  • Ability to clearly articulate complex concepts, future thinking strategy and rationale for difficult decisions with senior demanding audiences.
  • A competent and engaging line manager that supports their team in a fast paced, complex and demanding environment.
