Job Introduction:

Do you want to work in one of the country's most vibrant newsrooms covering the best city in the world? The Manchester Evening News is already the largest regional website in the country with a huge audience but we want to get even bigger. We are looking for an experienced journalist with a passion for news, excellent storytelling skills and a deep understanding of how to make content engaging.

So what will an engagement producer do? Our email newsletters have delivered record sign-ups and growth in the first quarter of this year - and now we are looking for an experienced journalist to help us build upon these foundations in Manchester and it’s surrounding areas.

We want to tell stories from across the many communities we serve and we’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from all backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing email newsletters.
  • Growing our numbers of newsletter subscribers.
  • Managing and moderating platforms for logged-in users, such as readers’ comments on our news stories.
  • Managing our social media channels when required including Facebook and Instagram.
  • Assisting our Google Showcase team when required. This team creates news panels, entertainment round-ups and more, which appear in Google News and Google Discover. (Full training will be provided.).

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Ideally, you’ll have NCTJ-accredited qualifications including news writing and media law. However other relevant qualifications or experience can be considered. 
  • Creative and experienced in social media, you will have clear ideas of how to reach and engage audiences 
  • Excellent social skills.
  • Experience of publishing via digital content management systems and video editing would be advantageous.
  • You’ll be comfortable working at pace and under deadline pressure.
  • This role includes some weekend and evening shift rota work.
