Overview.

The MOF content and search marketing teams are looking for a budding wordsmith with a passion for digital and an interest in data to support in day-to-day content and optimisation (SEO) tasks, including:

SEO:

  • Conducting search research within a framework set by the SEO lead, including keyword research, search trend analysis and competitor research.

  • Copywriting of meta descriptions and other SEO content.

  • Uploading content and adapting it to the web (internal links, correct heading markup, etc.).

  • Image optimisation including writing image alt text and updating filenames.

Content:

  • Research and media sourcing for articles (finding statistics and case studies as well as image and video to support in-house content production).

  • Editing and updating existing content including.

  • Support with proofreading & fact-checking new content.

  • Copywriting to a brief including producing quick turn-around press releases for new hires, award wins and agency news.

  • Copy editing and review for social content across our channels.

What we need from you:

  • We want to see that you have a passion for writing compelling content for a range of audiences and can do the research (cyber-sleuthing) to back it up. Ideally, you’ll also be a judicious editor, with a nose for bullsh*t. That means the successful candidate should either have a journalism degree or can share a (small) portfolio of their articles. It’s fine if these haven’t been published anywhere prestigious (or at all). We just want to see that you can work with words and can write to a variety of tones and styles.

  • An appetite to learn about adapting content to the web and acquire the basic SEO knowledge to do so is absolutely essential. Some of this will require diving into numbers and using spreadsheets with formulas to crunch them. If this is new to you, that’s OK - we’ll show you the ropes. But you have to bring a real enthusiasm for making sense of data and identifying (and responding to) trends.

  • You have to have a high tolerance for the occasionally mundane or repetitive. There will be times you will be expected to update a lot of links or rename a large batch of images. We need you to approach this with a can-do attitude. (A degree of drudgery is a reality of most jobs, so consider this resilience training for the future.

What we’ll do:

  • Teach the basics of optimisation as it applies to creating and updating content (copy and images).

  • Support you by giving you tight briefs for writing and editing.

  • Give you plenty of constructive feedback.

  • And you’ll be included in a range of activities that form part of the MOF culture.

What you can do after this internship:

Following this internship you will be well-versed in creating content for the web - that includes doing the research to ensure it’s search-optimised, structuring content effectively and writing metadata and handling images. You’ll also have extended your skills to writing across a range of formats (PR, company news, insight pieces) and for a variety of mediums (web, social).

You could use this as a springboard into a career in SEO or search marketing more generally. Or you can use it to boost your skillset as a writer - who now knows how to tailor their content to be found in search.
