From writing social posts that get us trending globally and crafting emails that you can’t help but open and read, to producing high-quality printed brochures and monthly magazines that set us apart from our competition, we’re looking for a talented, food-obsessed copy editor and sub-editor to join our content team.

This is not just any job, this is a job working in the team that produces all the creative content for M&S Food!

We’re looking for someone who can spot a spelling error from a mile away, who eats, sleeps and breathes good grammar and who can turn their hand to a multitude of copy asks – from online to email, print and social – and manage a busy workload to very tight timelines, juggling multiple priorities easily. You’ll be as comfortable writing a cheeky viral Instagram post as you are crafting longer form editorial or coming up with snappy new product names, and be easily able to adapt your tone of voice to suit. You’ll be able to seamlessly manage conflicting feedback from multiple stakeholders while maintaining the correct tone of voice for the channel.

You’ll have a real passion for food and a knowledge of recipes, trends and techniques.

  • Sub-editing all online food content, including but not limited to Style & Living features, food new features, emails, web pages, direct mailers and social copy.
  • Liaising with the food editor and publications managers and the wider content team as well as designers, developers and business units to ensure smooth production flow.
  • Sub-editing and managing production of new or seasonal pages such as Christmas, Wedding and Holiday Shop.
  • Supporting on copy requests as and when required, working closely with the food editor and head of content on style and tone of voice.

Apply if you have:

  • In-Depth experience as a sub-editor including digital editorial (retail experience a bonus).
  • Keen eye for detail, accuracy and consistency.
  • Strong editing and headline writing.
  • Ability to use Content Management Systems.
  • Work to daily deadlines and react to changing priorities.
  • Ability to write copy with editorial and commercial focus.
