BBC Three makes a range of experimental and innovative content aimed at 16-34 year olds. Since our launch as an online brand, BBC Three has been a multi award-winning pathfinder for the BBC and the wider industry, experimenting with new and unique ways of telling stories across different content forms and formats and with the means of distributing this content to young audiences in the places they are consuming content.

BBC Three content can be found on iPlayer and BBC One as well as across social platforms. The quality of the content has been recognised by audiences and the industry, winning the Broadcast Digital Channel of the Year Award 2020 and numerous awards for shows like The Rap Game UK, Fleabag, Man Like Mobeen and This Country.

It is committed to developing new talent in front of and behind the camera and finding distinct, diverse new voices representative of the whole of the UK. The ambition is for BBC Three to be braver, more provocative and more of the moment than any other part of the BBC, producing content which is uniquely close to its young audience, honed to their passions, locality and life experiences.

Role Responsibility:

As Content Editor, you will lead the BBC Three team in Birmingham. The role provides creative leadership to our Edit teams, taking the existing BBC Three portfolio, in-house and external content and finding new and unique ways of telling those stories, in different forms and formats, for a variety of platforms including You Tube, Facebook, Twitter, the BBC Three website and BBC Homepage and to support BBC linear TV and iPlayer transmission.

You will:

  • lead, inspire and manage a team of brilliant editors and post production support.
     
  • be responsible for delivering against the channel strategy and developing the teams potential; overseeing the  pipeline of content demands, managing workload and engaging in new partnership opportunities across the portfolio.
     
  • work closely and collaborate with Head of Social, Digital Production Unit Lead, YouTube Manager and Head of Marketing to ensure all campaigns are fully supported by creative and imaginative content which pushes creative boundaries and minimize crossover and to get the most out of our investment and content.
     
  • ensure the team deliver outstanding content in line with BBC Three strategy and BBC Editorial Compliance requirements; optimizing, planning and creating new content around upcoming titles, helping to drive new audiences to BBC Three on iPlayer and awareness to our content.
     
  • manage the workload and people resource scheduling of the extremely busy team, proactively forward planning and prioritizing with agility to ensure resources are managed according to the slate demands for the forthcoming year.
     
  • be passionate about developing digitally savvy junior editors who are original and brave in their style and editing to appeal to the younger audiences.

The Ideal Candidate:

The ideal person will have a passion for creating, editing and leading dynamic teams to create content for youth audiences. 

You will have had extensive experience of making compelling, innovative content at a senior level, communicating a clear editorial vision. 

With experience of managing and prioritising heavy and demanding workloads you will have the ability to lead a team to develop innovative ideas, suitable for youth audiences, pushing boundaries, taking risks to ensure content breaks through to our audiences. 

You will have extensive knowledge of BBC editorial guidelines and/or compliance policies and be digitally media savvy, with a good knowledge of competitors and industry trends and applying that knowledge and learning aiming to lead the industry.
